Hattie's Cancer Journey
My daughter Hattie was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called botryoid rhabdomyosarcoma in July 2013 when she was 16 months old. After about a year and a half of chemotherapy, radiation and multiple surgeries, she was declared cancer free in December 2014. I'm posting a photo and short reflection every day in 2015 to celebrate the end of treatment and reflect on the journey.

After the fun hijinks and easy chemo, reality came crashing down hard. My mom was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer after a lump was found at a routine mammogram. Now my mom, Hattie and my cousin Sasha Banks, who was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin lymphoma earlier in the summer, were all fighting this terrible collection of disease called cancer.
The ladies in this family are a tough breed and Sasha dubbed them "The Three Musketeers." They all had the attitude to keep fighting and not let their fights keep them down for long. Hattie encouraged her grandma with a fighting spirit in this picture, taken for grandma's birthday just a few days away.
