Hattie's Cancer Journey

My daughter Hattie was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called botryoid rhabdomyosarcoma in July 2013 when she was 16 months old. After about a year and a half of chemotherapy, radiation and multiple surgeries, she was declared cancer free in December 2014. I'm posting a photo and short reflection every day in 2015 to celebrate the end of treatment and reflect on the journey.

Kate found the odd mass when changing Hattie's diaper earlier in the day. Kate called the pediatrician and lucked into an appointment that afternoon. The doctor thought it was just a polyp but arranged for a followup with a pediatric gynecologist at Children's in Boston two days later just to be sure. We were worried and had no idea what we were in for. We danced away our worries at a Barenaked Ladies and Ben Folds concert that night.
