Hattie's Cancer Journey
7. 7/26/2013 - First scans.
Hattie went in for her first CT, PET and MRI scans. Because she was so little, she had to be put under anesthesia to get the scans. Anesthesia meant that she couldn't eat or drink anything in the morning. She did surprisingly well with this and didn't complain too much. She needed an IV placed to administer a contrast agent and anesthesia. The IV placement was horrible. We had to hold her kicking and screaming as the nurse tried to place the IV unsuccessfuly three times on her arm. The IV finally took and then we had an hour to wait in a hot room for the contrast agent to take effect.
The anesthesia was administered and Hattie went in for the MRI and we went to a waiting room. We saw her after the MRI was complete and waited for the PET/CT machine to open up. It took longer than expected and she woke up so she had to get another round of anesthesia. The machine cleared up and she went in for the last set of scans. It took her quite awhile to recover and was a bit nauseous. The hardest part was trying to keep her still during recovery. She just wanted to run around but was too unsteady. After a couple hours, she had recovered and we headed home. Hattie felt pretty good and was ready for dancing on the porch. It would be another few days of waiting to get results.
