Hattie's Cancer Journey

My daughter Hattie was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called botryoid rhabdomyosarcoma in July 2013 when she was 16 months old. After about a year and a half of chemotherapy, radiation and multiple surgeries, she was declared cancer free in December 2014. I'm posting a photo and short reflection every day in 2015 to celebrate the end of treatment and reflect on the journey.

What really strikes me when reflecting back on this journey is how much normal life was in there amid the treatment craziness. You go to a chemo appointment and then spend a couple days decompressing and then gear up for the next treatment. As an adult, it's so tough to live in the moment when you're constantly going through this cycle. For toddlers, it's in their nature to be focused on the moment. There are no worries about tomorrow, just about getting new milk when it spills.
